HEAR OF IT.

It's all the buzz. It's lingo. It's mainstreamed already. Political currency.

It is defining the party lines and processes.

Update. It isn't called "image" anymore, davey-darling. It's called framing. Use it, abuse it, burn it into your brain.

Framing, gorblimey!

My favorite one is “creating consensus” usually it means someone is trying to sell someone else wooden nickels…

The Ultra-blue Portlacrats went ape effing you-know-what because somebody -- according to them -- "framed" a poll question the wrong way. He asked if people support taxpayer-financed elections. Oh mercy, you'da thought a babe had been thrown live and screaming to lions. They wanted it framed by asking, "do you support publicly financed elections?"

Framing framing framing framing framing. George Lakoff wrote their manual, and do not step or speak out of order. At least personally and one-on-one the pubs are a party-down crowd compared to these democratic centralist authoritarians.

Oh, and that's only half the story -- not even half. Maybe a tenth. Cuz truth is, they got their council to adopt the measure knowing it would fail a public vote. So they rammed it down throats, ultra-blue fist first.

Like Nomarchy sez, I love authoritarian lefties.

NOT.

Report: Calif. Sheriff Deputized 86 Friends

The Associated Press
Thursday, May 26, 2005; 7:30 AM

LOS ANGELES -- A sheriff and one of his top aides deputized 86 of their friends, relatives and political contributors without checking their backgrounds, handing them limited arrest powers and guns in some cases, according to a newspaper investigation.

Orange County Sheriff Michael S. Carona and former Assistant Sheriff Donald Haidl named the volunteers in 1999, the year after Carona was elected, despite concerns raised by a county attorney and the state Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.

The background checks were completed only last year, sheriff's officials said.

Carona defended the appointments in an e-mail response to questions from the newspaper.

"Like any organization, the first group of individuals we reach out to for support and assistance is friends and family of the members of the organization," Carona wrote.

Of the 86 appointees, 29 contributed to Carona's campaigns in 1998 and 2002. Others hosted fund-raisers for Carona or his philanthropy, the Mike Carona Foundation.

Carona denied that the appointments were political favors.

Foxnews jumped like a good dog and wholeheartedly endorsed Bush's illegal, immoral invasion and occupation of Iraq, why would that little slip of the tongue surprise anyone?

Foxnews are the Republicans. Everyone knows it.

As far as I'm concerned Foxnews has as much (or little) credibility as the Reagan administration's Otto Reich headed propaganda organization, the Office of Public Diplomacy.

Just a bunch of media advertising and CIA propaganda experts trying to scam the country with distortions and outright lies.

I suppose I ought to spend some time researching every Democrat crook in the US, but I have to go to work.

Just remember, Ruppert's whole point about the 2000 election was that Dems would have won if the felon vote had been counted and Gore had been able to not count more of the military vote.

Too bad Florida wasn't one of them.

All fifty states are supposed to let the military vote, but AlGore didn't get the memo. Luckily Joe Lieberman did.

You so like to pillory the R's and their "values", for a little peek at the other side:

"Sting nets 4 Tennessee lawmakers

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

NASHVILLE, Tenn. c Four state lawmakers, including a member of one of Tennessee’s most powerful political families, were indicted Thursday on charges of taking bribes from FBI agents posing as representatives of an electronics-recycling company.
In a sting operation dubbed “Tennessee Waltz,” the FBI set up a bogus company called E-Cycle Management Inc., then doled out payoffs to lawmakers to sponsor a bill that would allow the business to buy and sell used electronic equipment from the state. The bill was withdrawn Wednesday.
One lawmaker, state Sen. John Ford, allegedly received payments totaling $55,000, beginning last year. Ford is also charged with attempting to threaten or intimidate potential witnesses by telling an undercover agent that “if he caught someone trying to set him up he would shoot that person,” prosecutors said.
State Sens. Kathryn Bowers and Ward Crutchfield, and state Rep. Chris Newton — were charged with accepting lesser amounts. A former state senator, Roscoe Dixon, was also charged, as were two non-elected officials...Over three decades in the Tennessee Senate, John Ford has lost paternity lawsuits, given a political job to a girlfriend and been successfully sued for sexual harassment. The Senate Ethics Committee and a federal grand jury are also investigating the $237,000 Ford received in 2002 and 2003 from a consulting company with financial ties to the state’s Medicaid program.
Newton is a Republican; the others are Democrats."

Now continue the rant...

Cool. Nail the forking crooks to the wall. I always refer to Rostenkowski and the Daleys of Chicago. Big time crooks. They are the most visible in Illinois.

That's why I voted Nader in 2000. That's why I thought the Republican's promise to bring integrity and honesty back to DC was good.

But they lied.

Now it's time to cash in!!!

That is why I am so hard on them.

Run on morals and values, honesty and integrity, then become the biggest pack of god damned crooks this country has ever seen.

And the phrase "everybody does it!!!" or "that's how things work in DC" doesn't cut it at all.

It would be like a person running on an anti-abortion plank then advocating abortions at will when he gets into office.

How about some of that personal responsibility Newt was always carrying on about? ANY?

I didn't think so. - 0 - none, nada, zip, nothing, never, ever, EVER.

They do, however, deserve a Medal of Freedom, Bush style.

It's getting old. I still say it's a matter of degree. Yes you find some petty crooks among the D's, that doesn't compare to the large scale fraud that enabled DeLay and Company their illicit gains in Texas. Or the wholesale fraud and power-grabbing of this current crop of Radical Righties.

4 Tenn. lawmakers arrested in bribery probe
FBI set up bogus company to ferret out influence peddlingThe Associated Press
Updated: 2:27 p.m. ET May 26, 2005NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Four Tennessee lawmakers, a former lawmaker and two others were indicted Thursday amid a federal investigation into the business dealings of a state senator from Memphis from a powerful political family, officials said.

The defendants are charged with taking bribes from undercover investigators to influence legislation concerning a bogus company set up by the FBI. The company, called E-Cycle Management Inc., purported to be a recycler of outdated electronic equipment.

“We hope it will bring back some of the trust back to state government,” Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director Mark Gwyn said.

Those charged included the senator, John Ford; fellow Sens. Kathryn Bowers and Ward Crutchfield; state Rep. Chris Newton; and former state Sen. Roscoe Dixon. Newton is a Republican and the others are Democrats. Calls to the legislators’ offices Thursday were not immediately returned.

Bribery, intimidation charges
Ford also is charged with three counts of attempting to threaten or intimidate potential witnesses. The indictment said he told an undercover agent that “if he caught someone trying to set him up he would shoot that person.”

Ford is alleged to have taken a payoff of $55,000 from E-Cycle Management, with other defendants allegedly getting lesser amounts.

His brother is former U.S. Rep Harold Ford Sr., who served in Congress for 11 terms. His nephew, Rep. Harold Ford Jr., has served five terms in Congress and on Wednesday entered the race for the Senate seat now held by Republican Majority Leader Bill Frist.

U.S. Attorney Terry Harris said the investigation has been under way for two years after authorities got an anonymous complaint. The undercover operation was dubbed “Tennessee Waltz.”

“Public corruption is a high priority,” Harris said. “Our citizens have a right to know government is not for sale.”

Mrs. Clinton's Former Top Fund-Raiser Is Acquitted of False-Filing Charges

By LESLIE EATON
Published: May 28, 2005

LOS ANGELES, May 27 - A federal jury on Friday acquitted David F. Rosen, the chief fund-raiser for Hillary Rodham Clinton's 2000 United States Senate campaign, of charges that he caused false filings to be made to the Federal Election Commission.

The jury deliberated for less than five hours before it found Mr. Rosen, 38, not guilty on the two counts, for which he had faced as much as 10 years in prison.

Mr. Rosen's wife, mother and in-laws gasped and sobbed as Judge A. Howard Matz read the verdict, and Mr. Rosen's lead lawyer, Paul M. Sandler, embraced him and thumped him on the back.

The case involved a heady brew of Washington politics and Hollywood tinsel, and longtime critics of Senator Clinton tried to use it to tar her politically. Mr. Rosen was accused of vastly underreporting the costs of a fund-raiser for Mrs. Clinton in August 2000 at which stars including Cher and Patti LaBelle performed.

Mr. Rosen told campaign officials that the event cost about $400,000; prosecutors said that the true expenses topped $1.1 million, although both sides at the trial agreed that the final costs remained unknown.

The prosecutors' explanations for Mr. Rosen's alleged behavior shifted somewhat during the course of the trial, but basically boiled down to an effort to help Mrs. Clinton's campaign or his own career. Mrs. Clinton did not know about the underreporting, the government said, and was not charged.

The verdict clearly comes as a relief to the Clinton camp, which has been following the case closely, and to the Democratic Party (one of Mr. Rosen's lawyers is counsel to the Democratic National Committee).

"We have said from the beginning that when all the evidence is in, David would be vindicated," David E. Kendall, a longtime lawyer for the Clintons, said in a statement. "That has come to pass, and Senator Clinton is very happy for David and his family."

U.S. Attorney Terry Harris said the investigation has been under way for two years after authorities got an anonymous complaint. The undercover operation was dubbed “Tennessee Waltz.”

“Public corruption is a high priority,” Harris said. “Our citizens have a right to know government is not for sale.”

This is a perfect example of what is wrong with the Bush administration. If personal responsibility or accountability plays such a large role in Republican politics (as was driven into voters heads for 10 years) why are these people getting rewarded? It's become a total forking joke.

We have - 0 - credibility.

THIS IS WHY. Give them a bonus, a medal for god's sake.

This administration is morally bankrupt and has ruined our reputation and dragged us all into the sewer. They are worse than anything I've ever seen in my life. Unbelievable.

Army Analysts Linked to Intelligence Failures on Iraq Receive Awards for Job Performance

The Associated PressThe Associated Press

WASHINGTON May 28, 2005 — Two Army analysts whose work has been connected to a major intelligence shortcoming on Iraq have received awards for job performance over the last few years, according to officials.

The two civilian analysts work at the Army's National Ground Intelligence Center one of three U.S. agencies criticized by the presidential commission that probed U.S. intelligence on Iraq.

The Pentagon, in a written statement, told The Washington Post the awards for the analysts were to recognize their overall contributions on the job over the course of each of the past three years, and that "supervisors were encouraged to reward individuals on the basis of their annual contributions."

The analysts are former military men who are experts on foreign and U.S. weaponry.

Their work has been cited as part of a key intelligence failure on Iraq the claim that aluminum tubes sought by the Baghdad government were most likely meant for a nuclear weapons program rather than for rockets.

The commission deemed their agency's assessment of the aluminum tubes as a "gross failure." The agency was "completely wrong," the panel said, when it judged in September 2002 that the tubes Iraq was purchasing were "highly unlikely" to be used for rocket motor cases because of their "material and tolerances."

The panel found that aluminum tubes with similar tolerances were used in a previous Iraqi rocket, the Nasser 81, and that the International Atomic Energy Agency had published details about the system in 1996, as did the Energy Department in 2001.

The panel's report said "the two primary NGIC rocket analysts said they did not know the dimensions" of the older Nasser 81 rocket and were unaware of the IAEA and Energy Department reports. The report did not name the analysts, but officials told The Post that the panel was referring to George Norris and Robert Campos.

When contacted by the Post, Norris deferred all questions to his superiors and said a request for comment from Campos would get the same response.

The Pentagon did not have immediate comment Saturday.

Morals and values, Republican style.

By JAMES DAO
Published: May 28, 2005

COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 27 - For nearly a decade, Thomas Noe has been the Republican Party's man to see in northwest Ohio, a confidant of governors and a prodigious fund-raiser for legislators, judges and just about every Republican statewide elected official.

James Conrad, above, resigned as head of the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation this week. The bureau made two $25 million investments in rare-coin funds held by Thomas Noe, a prominent fund-raiser.

He also happened to be a dealer in rare coins. And in 1998, the Ohio Workers' Compensation Bureau agreed to invest in a rare-coin fund that he controlled as a way to hedge its holdings in stocks and bonds, an investment that experts have called highly unorthodox.

But this week, Mr. Noe's lawyers said that as much as $13 million of the state's $50 million investment in his two funds could not be accounted for. Mr. Noe, meanwhile, has become the focus of at least six investigations or audits involving either his handling of the coin investments or his campaign fund-raising. Federal investigators are also looking into his contributions to President Bush's 2004 campaign as a "Pioneer," raising more than $100,000.

And suddenly, Republicans who once stood staunchly at Mr. Noe's side, and at his fund-raising parties, cannot seem to run from him fast enough.

"I am outraged, angered, saddened, and I'm sickened by what we learned yesterday from Mr. Noe's attorney," Gov. Bob Taft said on Friday about the revelation of the missing millions. "If he is guilty of criminal conduct, he should receive the most severe punishment possible."

Mr. Taft, a friend of Mr. Noe, said he was unaware of the coin investments until The Toledo Blade broke the news in April. He made his comments at a news conference at the statehouse, where he announced the resignation of James Conrad as the administrator of the Workers' Compensation Bureau, and announced his support for legislation to prohibit such investments.

William C. Wilkinson, a lawyer for Mr. Noe, said his client was cooperating fully with the criminal investigations. "It's premature to talk about criminal conduct until those investigations are complete," he said.

Democrats have tried to turn the missing coins into a morality tale about the dangers of one-party government. Indeed, in Ohio it is hard to find anyone responsible for government problems who is not a Republican, since Republicans control not only the governor's office, but also the Legislature, the attorney general's office, the Supreme Court and the state auditor's office.

"One-party rule has made the Republicans much more sloppy in their corruption," said State Senator Marc Dann, a Democrat.

But the scandal has also jolted the Republican Party simply because Mr. Noe, thanks to his energy, charm and sheer fund-raising prowess, has helped or befriended just about every prominent Republican in the state. Mr. Taft, who cannot run for re-election because of term limits, received about $20,000 in donations from Mr. Noe and his wife over the past decade.

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/05/28/national/28coins.html
davisął
But in the past two months a series of embarrassing details about Mr. Noe and his coin funds have come to light. First, The Blade disclosed that two coins worth $300,000 had been lost in 2003. Then state officials acknowledged that another 119 coins worth $93,000 were missing. Earlier this week, Mr. Noe's lawyers told state officials that he had also used state funds to invest in artwork and collectibles, such as autographs and cards. And on Thursday Mr. Noe's lawyers said that as much as $13 million in assets are missing.

Mr. Jackson said it was not clear whether Mr. Noe had the legal authority to invest the state's money on collectibles or whether the state was even the rightful owner of those items. State officials also say they do not know which coins have disappeared from the two funds, which are being liquidated.
