Fair question.

QUOTE(Repub_Bub @ Oct 8 2005, 08:11 AM)
the question that should be asked is “Why are you a Republican when you believe that the ethical foundation of the party is the abridgment of every law?.

(ANSWER)

Because I do not believe that the "ethical foundation of the party is the abridgment of every law?"

I believe the ethical tenants are sound and valid. I believe that the party hierarchy is (not to say that the Democratic Party is no less) composed of men who are utilitarian (power hungry and working in their own best interest) and think that any legal spirit or intent is technically fair game. I believe the power base is composed of ethically corrupt and morally bankrupt leadership.

(PERSONAL VIEW)

For all practical purposes, there is only a choice between two the two parties (Republican & Democratic). A voice and vote cast in any other party venue is merely a negative (weakening vote) voice or vote cast that will neither be heard nor counted in the final analysis.

If one is to be an active voice in support of the “nation” and its needs, one must work from within the Party to bring the moral, standards and political courage forward. The party must have a self-correcting mechanism from within if it is every to advance the goal of the nation (as opposed to the goals of the party mechanics).

Politics and Politicians should not be the vial creatures they have become. Machines and Mechanics that put the party above the nation, twisting the truth, corrupting the law, furthering the enrichment of the ruling elite over the general welfare of the citizenry.

Politics and Politicians should not be the handmaidens of the wealthy the export the lifeblood of our nation to foreign states, capitalizing on poverty to enrich themselves over the many. Politics and Politicians should not be writing laws that encourage industry to seek other nations to manufacture goods and services at the expense of the unemployed. Politics and Politicians should not be exporting billions of taxpayer dollars to a country like Iraq, rebuilding its infrastructure while America falls into disarray. Politics and Politicians should not endorse the energy industry to purposefully reduce production capacity in order to improve retained earnings because of artificially manipulated supply and demand outcomes, raising the prices for record profits. Politics and Politicians should not be suppressing new scientific adventures that will lead America into a new age of enlightenment, while the cost of energy raises, medicine and pharmaceuticals skyrocket, and the wage earning jobs decrease.

Politics and Politicians are the cause of the ills of our nation. They have put themselves, the party, and their money-lining benefactors above the needs of the nation. There is no occupation more reviled than that of a professional politician. …

yeah I thought it was "election" 2000 and 9/11 that made me hate republicans the way I do but no, it was the anthrax assassination attempts made on democrat elected officials and various other "lefties" that resulted in the deaths of innocent people that did it. Then you have republicans belittling it and saying things like "republicans were targeted too" as well as "they sent it to themselves" and other ignorant sh_t. Other than that they pretty much ignore it even though it is the most unbelievable thing to ever happen in America. Of course if the 9/11 and anthrax assassination attempts had happened while a democrat was prez and they were the targets they would not only never shut up but they would get far more results as far as finding out who did it.

Miller to meet with CIA leak prosecutor
Interview could lead to another appearance before grand jury

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The special prosecutor in the CIA leak investigation will interview New York Times reporter Judith Miller next week, according to one of Miller's attorneys, Floyd Abrams.

Miller's meeting with prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald will occur Tuesday in Washington, Abrams said, but it will not be conducted in front of the grand jury looking into the leak of Valerie Plame's identity as a CIA operative.

However, Abrams said, Fitzgerald could decide after the interview to have Miller make another grand jury appearance.

Miller testified to the jury on September 30 after receiving a waiver from the source whose confidentiality she went to prison to protect: Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff. She had been jailed for 85 days.

Abrams would not comment on a Reuters report that Miller has given notes from a conversation she had with Libby weeks earlier than was previously known. The report cited its sources as saying the new information could lay the foundation for a conspiracy charge, should it show an orchestrated campaign to discredit Plame's diplomat husband, Joseph Wilson.

On Thursday the attorney for presidential adviser Karl Rove said that his client will appear for a fourth time before the grand jury hearing testimony in an investigation into the leak. No date was disclosed. (Full story)

Knowingly identifying a covert agent is a felony under federal law, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Fitzgerald is trying to determine whether any crimes were committed when Plame's identity was exposed in a July 2003 piece by syndicated columnist and longtime CNN contributor Robert Novak.

Novak said the disclosure was made to him by two "senior administration officials." He has refused to say publicly who his sources were, and what cooperation he may have given Fitzgerald, if any, remains unclear.

Plame's husband, a former U.S. ambassador to Iraq, challenged one of the Bush administration's chief arguments for launching a war against Iraq: that then-President Saddam Hussein was seeking uranium from Africa to restart his country's nuclear weapons program.

In an opinion piece in The New York Times, Wilson wrote about his mission to Niger, in central Africa, to investigate the claim and how he found no evidence to support it.

"I have little choice but to conclude that some of the intelligence related to Iraq's nuclear weapons program was twisted to exaggerate the Iraqi threat," Wilson wrote.

One week after his article appeared, his wife's identity was exposed.

(COMMENT)

The question pre-supposes that the "politicians" have a vested interest in "clean-up."

The GOP (or for that matter the DNC) does not see themselves as "reviled creatures." They see themselves as professional patriots that serve a vital role in our nation. They have power, influence and money. They have a special social standing. They are not one of us, but part of a ruling elite (prince and princess). They believe that they are part of the body that does the thinking for America. When the Oil Industry came to them, and they wanted to manipulate the price of gasoline, they just cut refinery capacity. Low supply equals higher prices. Did our government establish a national energy plan to prevent that from happening – no! Why? Because the oil industry has money and money buys power. The whole idea of privatization and deregulation is to afford big business (lobbying influences with money) an opportunity to make more money by using our money - or manipulating the market forces which affect pricing. It is not the government looking out for our basic needs.

They see us as it really is. We common folks must seek an audience with then, they don’t seek an audience with us. In their perspective, it is the employee that must ask to see the boss, not the other way around.

They operate by projection. They employee people to craft an image, sound bite their words, and prepare the setting in which they are seen, all to impress us at the right time. But they don’t take responsibility for anything. When things are bad, it is never the fault of the politician or holder of high political office.

Until the time comes when we can hold politicians (Representative and Senators) accountable for a high performance government, they will not change.

Each time we re-elect our Representatives and Senators to the House and Senate, we are rewarding them for the very things we find so despicable about them.

Most Respectfully,

I'm not so sure about that. Some of the more reputable Reps seem to be realizing that what with DeLay, Plame, Abramoff, Frist, and Bush becoming a drag on the Party, they may be in danger of losing control of, at least, the Senate. The house, too, if anti-incumbent fever continues to grow. Safe districts or not, the districts are only safe if the base turns out; it's that base that MAKES the districts safe.

And with "the base" fragmenting into what it always was, several different "bases" unified only by their dislike of liberals and Dems, Congresscritters seem to be realizing they need to cater to their OWN sub-base if they're going to hold on to their seats.

Everybody seems to discount Howard Dean and the job he's doing. That's a mistake.

We've bought our Democracy Bond, make monthly contributions to the DNC on our credit card. Millions of us.

My younger brother, who is somewhat shy, is going door to door with leaflets and talking to people about the importance of voting democrat. I could hardly believe it when he told me what he's doing. He's never been an activist, 52 years old. Old Howard got to him. The IBEW is going door to door to educate and gain support for new democrats in elections where the republicans didn't have opposition.

Growing the party from the grassroots. I don't know if it will work, but millions of people who weren't involved before are becoming activists for the cause. And millions are donating monthly, not much from each, but a million here and a million there and you start talking big money.

I think we'll see a surge in voting this next election. I sure as hell hope so, anyway.

It's good to hear that people close to you are getting involved, and that folks are working to re-generate the Democratic party.

Now there's an idea.....It would really be something if the dems could return to near normalcy by the time they win another election

Letter from my local paper:

Bush has made U.S. laughingstock of the world

Sunday, October 9, 2005

To believe the latest nomination to the Supreme Court is anything less than cronyism, you must first believe all the spin that comes from this administration, a la Fox News. At every turn, there is someone willing to fall on the sword for this group of nincompoops.

How can you plausibly claim to be a compassionate conservative while running up the largest deficits in history, while cutting programs designed to help the downtrodden? Conversely, how can you claim to be building a democracy in a foreign land while doing everything possible to destroy your own? This joke of an administration insults our intelligence and makes us the laughingstock of the world.

Serious foreign policy questions deserve real answers, given by someone who actually can speak to the American people and the world without looking down at the work of a spin doctor, who has the ability to string five words together without getting tongue-tied. Throughout my lifetime, I've heard the warnings that big business would eventually control national politics, but I held hope that it wouldn't be allowed to happen.

If you believe one word this president says, you are an even bigger idiot than he is. Yours are the young people who should be sacrificed for his lies, but truth is, we will all pay, whether we like it or not.

Where is the call for impeachment? We no longer even have the election process as an avenue of change. Be very afraid.

...Bush slips, GOP faces major shift in '08 vote
http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/news/brea...ws/12862102.htm

rebels fed up with the wicked ways of Washington.

A small sampling:

Sen. John McCain of Arizona is tweaking Bush for his budget-busting spending binge.

Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas, a hero to grassroots conservatives, is threatening to oppose the Miers nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska assails Bush on Iraq, contending that the White House is "disconnected from reality."

Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee scoffs at Bush's suggestion that perhaps the Pentagon should be the lead agency handling natural disasters.

Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker, contends that the current GOP establishment, mired in scandals, has betrayed the small-government reform agenda that congressional conservatives brought to Washington 10 years ago.

Rep. Thomas G. Tancredo of Colorado charges that Bush is soft on illegal immigration and hasn't done enough to secure our borders against terrorists.

...

"you'll see people distancing themselves from him even more. This President is becoming weaker by the day."

...

Top Republicans in four states - West Virginia, North Dakota, Florida and Michigan - have spurned the administration's attempts to sign them up as challengers to four Democratic senators up for reelection in 2006.

It's good that avowed socialists are taking over the Dem party?
