Full Version: How about a C-SPAN forum?
C-Span sucks community > Board Issues and old topics > Board issues
Jon Garfunkel
This seems rather trivial to do... but when I asked Vandelay, he suggested checking with the group. So here I am. Polling.

Questions about C-SPAN programming, hosts
Review of C-SPAN programming
Proposals for how to improve C-SPAN & community

and such. The point of focusing it, is if people come off the street here, they can ask a question, and get an answer without having to wade into the political waters.

I like your polling option list.

Since C-SPAN is a political forum, how would we divorce questions, reviews and proposals for C-SPAN's format from "political waters?"
Art.
My feeling that we might as well just put C-Span topics in the forums we have is because the lesser used forums become ghost towns while the political forum has plenty of traffic.

I have no problem either way, but feel a separate forum for C-Span will sacrifice traffic for organization. (and you know how I hate organization)
Art.
Last option sure looks tempting.

I forgot to add the options for "Moral Values" and "Strongly Disagree." ;-)

I meant partisan politics. I tried to do that in my question about the "Novicisms." I didn't want people to go off on a tangent on partisan issues about how the media is biased to be liberal/conservative/whatever. My only response (after frothing out the mouth seeing the topic go into flame-land) was to point out "duly noted" that people are suspicious about media biases.

I like that your other "myth" term over novacisms. What was that, again?

Does your vision entail a moderator picking and choosing interactive online content to show on their TV programming?

My reaction is: why should we do their work for them? I'm sure they do not want us to, and I am even surer I do not want to presume either the ability or the right. If we do it, it should be solely in the interests of us or any other broadbased web community of listeners/citizens.

The ones C-SPAN declines to serve interactively.

The only action I can think of that might get any attention at all would be to form a million watcher protest at the C-Span offices. Do they have offices? Do they have a million watchers? Might be a problem.

Edit: Maybe if all the pseuds showed up. ... ... ...

Currently, there are six forums. One is heavily (relatively) used, one a bit used, one even lesser but a bit used; three are almost not at all used.

A C-SPAN board in the "Political" folder would be better used, I expect, than a separate forum, at least after the novelty wore off. And the entire raison d'etre of C-SPAN is politics.

I think it's fine to have a C-SPAN board -- whether a separate forum is unimportant to me but may be a judgment call as to future use. Mr. Garfunkel may well see limited use as a potential plus, being less subject to the sporadic invasions of the soapbox riffraff. laugh.gif As Mr. Vandelay notes, though, a dead forum is, well, self-explanatory.

There always were people who trotted into the C-SPAN Community who were interested in C-SPAN much more than they were that personal & political debating club. The thought may be out there that a forum here would be useful for such as those -- though they were almost always heard from once and not again.

'S'ok by me.

When we create the forum, you can ask me there...

This is a forum in a forum about a possible forum.

OK I created an Improving C-Span Folder with Improving C-Span Call in Forum. It's at the bottom of the front page with no topics in it.

I want a medical forum where we can discuss control-freakitis -- lots catchier linguistically if not psychologically than "novicism."
