Bub... friend, I think I can assure you that I would wright mine poetry(songs:~) whether or not they "lay their lives on the line"... I think that even death might not stop that part of me...

I'd be better served if they'd not "lay their lives on the line" for me... I'd really rather that they wrote poetry or something like that in turn...

Yup, he'd bomb the muslims.

Thanks for asking this question.

I appreciate the thanks, but no apologies are needed. I'm not so anti-pacifist as I am a realist. I've always tried to be a peacemaker first and a fighter afterwards. Years as a bouncer teach you something about humanity in the trenches. Most people are good and though they may lose their heads want to remain peaceful. But a few will do anything to get what they want and hurt others.

I really like most people and like to hear their views regardless of how much we dissagree.

Don't know much about the Bible and neopagans don't have anything to return quotes from, sorry.

There's a mean streak of luck involved.

Shortly after PA school, I moved from my first job to m=y second in Portland, OR.

Stayed in a dorm for med students. There were patients there, too.

One was slowly going blind and was being treated for that, and evenings she'd be in the music room practicing.

Beutiful girl, beutiful voice, music styling underivative, unique, professional and wonderful.

WIth all that and going blind, I figgurred her as a shoo-in.

Never heard a thing after that.

Mean luck required.

I did hear Marillee Rush very early in her career, and that is all she had - an early career. She was singing at a converted skating rink that closed 11 months after it opened.

'Angel of the Morning' was hers, and she was terrific, but barely made it out of Seattle all the way to Spokane.

Mean luck, I tell ya.

Then some get what they earn....

Saw James Brown back in Lubbock, Tx in the 60s...Didn't like him then and don't like him now but he put on a hell of a show. Very small turnout but the guy performed as if to thousands.
Really deserves some respect.

Yep, a lot of talent running around, and a lot of it is determined and hard working. That leaves a bit of luck to seal the deal. Hopefully she found something else that made her happy.

It's a hard row to hoe...I used to play out in a few bands...nothing serious, just bar gigs, but I did know a few bands that did give it their all in hopes of grabbing that brass ring...

The only one that ever "made it", (from the local musicians around during my time) were the Gin Blossoms...and we know how that turned out...right about the time they scored their breakthrough hit, their lead singer/songwriter killed himself.

I was in one band or another, off & on, for around 20 years...it burned me out so badly that I haven't even touched a guitar in over 8 years.
Arturo_Vandelay
What a bummer. A breakthrough hit may just put too much pressure on a already fragile ego and psyche. And a lead singer suicide really screws his mates.

Art can be the same. Feast or famine. Mostly famine. It helps to be part salesman, part marketer and part artist. (don't forget brown noser, one reason I didn't make it)

I know one guy that gets between 10 and 30 thousand a portrait and another that has gotten over 50 thousand for a sculpture.

They had a tough time when they were younger though.

I gave up art for a long time, ignoring the market entirely.

"It's a dog eat dog world and I'm wearing milkbone underwear." Norm off of Cheers. laugh.gif laugh.gif

Arturo_Vandelay
Ah Norm. One of my absolute favorite quotes.

Dying is a good career move for artists, not so much for musicians. The art world can only have so many originals, music you can stamp out no problem.
