We just had to "put down" the 3rd stray cat to come and beg for attention and food at our door.
these cats have gotten sicker everyday, and we can't stand it, we can't take them in as we have two healthy indoor cats.
but i did spend $50.00 do do the humane thing
i'm not trying to be Bob Barker, but he's right
and people that get cats and then release them to the wild (outdoor cat) are...
"what did he say?"
" man. I don't f@#%ing believe you!"
Sometime i like animals better than humans
sorry for "sticking my foot out as you run by" as i don't want to bog down the Blog.
i don't know
some how i'll link cats to politics (culture and history)

You might check around with your local Human Society, and if there's one in your area, PetSmart and Petco. Here, they have a "foster parent" program, where they pay the vet bills, and you keep a kitty and take it to the pet store to stay a few hours every Saturday morning. At the pet store, they can be adopted for the cost of discount spay & neuter and shots, already given to an older cat, certificates for them for kittens.
I always have one or two foster kitties here, keeping my indoor/outdoor cat company. Worst she ever caught from one was ear mites, but then, she's had ALL her vaccinations, even the ones like FLV and FIP that aren't generally recommended for cats around here.
Haven't had any problems, except for one who ripped out a window screen to get outside. Mind you, he came back to eat and sleep, but he wasn't ABOUT to be an indoor kitty!
You should ask Bart about the Happy Cat Family!

So when you say the strays "got sicker every day" you're saying that you took them to a vet who diagnosed them with a terminal illness?
Surely you didn't kill another cat because they were thin and asking you for food.

Don't be too harsh, Ills. A lot of the cats I get from the Humane Society to be fostered arrive with, like, worms and eye infections or abcesses or ringworm or other skin conditions. Here, a local vet donates his time to diagnose these things and supplies the meds free for me to administer (and I have to drive them to the vet for 2nd doses of vaccines), and yes, sometimes my own kitty catches these things and I have to give HER the meds, too.
But I can understand Junkie's viewpoint. It can run hundreds of dollars to PAY to have an alley cat restored to good health, in the meantime the poor thing is suffering, and if you can't afford the vet bills to cure it, sometimes the best thing you can do is have the poor kitty put to sleep via drugs, instead of calling animal control which kills the sick kitty in a much less merciful way, via decompression chamber.

that's were all the money went
to diag the cat
the cats have sores in their mouth and can't clean themselves
and their
eyes
nose
and mouth
have all kinds of body fluids (and blood) seeping out
both of my cats are adopted
I (oopps, we we we) we nursed them back to health
and i just found a home for a 4th "stray"
my cats have chips (for good or ill, in regards to the technology)
the cat i just took in did not.
no collar.
and has been coming to my house for 2 months with it's "sister".
after we found it's dead "sister"
we started feeding it (for good or ill) (it was hungry)
in Yaka-vegas we have one part time "dog-catcher"
and tons of stray pets
i will look for some facility to take sick cats to ( if there is one here) because it's only a matter of time before another "STRAY" comes along
My Mother came over to the house and we were just sitting down for breakfast,
my better half, me, and the cats
My mom asked "why are the cats eating at the table?"
i said " because if i feed them in bed they will think they are spoiled."

Mouth sores and bad teeth in a stray are usually just malnutrition, and cure themselves with a couple of weeks of feeding with soft wet food, then transitioning them to mixed wet/dry food, and then to the less expensive dry food only.
But mouth sores can also be a symptom of FIP, so be sure your own kitty is vaccinated against it.

I had to ask.
I have cats that are all indoor/outdoor. They are all healthy and well fed, and still ask for food. I'd hate to think somebody thinks they are performing a community service by putting them down.
Sorry c-junkie.

My cats have always been indoor/outdoor too. I think they are healthier and happier that way, though auto traffic does take its toll.

Part of the reason I live in a court. I think they are happier too. I keep my cats indoors until I get them fixed, and I would still get kittens looking outside longingly and mewing even though they've never been.

We have a community effort in conjunction with two vet offices who sponsor and show adopbable animals to prosective parents. The group also sponsors a weekly newspaper ad with pics of available pets. SPCA is currently also negotiating with the county to take over animal control issues. Kritter Kare vet hospital will take any animals someone doesn't want or bring in strays and put them up for adoption.

I am looking also for outdoor speakers for my deck and have looked at Outdoor Speakers Depot, but they make me nervous. You cant hear the speakers first so you kind of have to go with the specs. The specs look good for sure, but they are so much cheaper than say the Polks or Boston Acoustics. Then the old saying "you get what you pay for" comes into play. Has anyone actually
purchased the normal type patio speakers from them?
