We can decide to change this, but to avoid a flame war how about making it off base to mention other poster in topics? We have plenty of opportunity to do that elsewhere. In that regard I closed the Beeswax topic so it can be read and not posted to. No blood, no foul, but I figure if we just agree to a few basic rules I don't have to sign in with this stupid admin ID and can peruse the boards in peace.

It wasn't a particularly nasty topic so I don't want anyone upset, I can just see that making topics personal is going to lead in a direction we may not want to go.

It really didn't bother me, AV.



Do whatever you think is best. You seem to have pretty good instincts in this. I think some preople are here looking for a social scene, and others are looking for er, more substansive fodder.

With all the conservatives here, it's inevitable that a gang-up will occur on liberals. I think those of us stubborn enough to be here can take it.

I don't even want to get involved with what is substantial versus social or rules. That was what C-Span was always harping on. I just want to decide by agreement what is fair and stick to it.

As for "all the conservatives here" it does seem a little closer to balanced than it was on C-Span, but I have invited every lib I could so I hope they will read their email and join.

I understand the perception of ganging up, but it's just part of the game. to tell you the truth I liked C-Span because I could always find a lot of liberals to argue with. And for the most part I have no real animosity toward any of them.

Sh_t man, I saw that thread, saw red, didnt even want to view it and couldnt even conceive of anyone("regulars") that would post on it, and wanted to make a "FART KRAPZ TAN/SWIFT BOAT KATZ" or some stupid f__in thing thread. Something so petty and stupid that I would have been nominated as a honorary redneck.

The real problem was that I saw the thread where the issue started, saw no reason it had to "escalate" outside to some special, personal, "seniority" (would hate to say clique) driven vendetta. Something so personal. petty, third world and third grade.

I'm really disappointed that Bee gave that stupid effer the satisfaction of ever even responding because it would not have gone beyond the initial opening. NO ONE would have posted on that pile of sh_t otherwise.

I think that AV's point regarding personal threads is well taken.

It's a matter of freedom requiring responsibility. If the topic list becomes nothing but personal vedettas it will be impossible to keep track of real issues. We can still food fight without cluttering up the works with a million personal topics.

I'm pleased to see some lively debate breaking out here and there again.

OK. That got me to read it. Although I disagree with the very first sentence, that I laid down a challenge to him to "support his thought" on McCain. Nor do I think he did that; he went on a wild streak of old links, hijacking the thread and not even in the pretext of a discussion. I will say I did not realize I was hitting such a nerve. May as well have criticized the Fuhrer or Chairman in some other state where naught but devotion was allowed. I thought my remarks were on the order of an aside in a nightclub, not a gauntlet to be run. I personally have never taken so personally criticism of a politician I liked, including Senator McCain.
