i don't mean to get all ballsy(?)
posting this that and the other thing

1) i want to lobby for more cspan
2) there should be a place (petitiononline.com) where supporters and junkies and lay persons can go ONE TIME ONLY to voice there approval of more cspan.

very simple
very grassroots

effective??
i don't know, he's on third, and i don't give a damn

i've never written a petition (of course)

and have read only a few

i find they are not "bullet point" enough for me. (astigmatism & vitreous floaters)(not a band)

i really am just a guy
not like the WEBSITE JOCKIES C-SPAN showcased on their saturday WJ for months and months (george hager days??)
when asked what they do
they were journalist
or professional of some sorts
but
they were not "everyday" people (i have the tapes in my basement, i just don't want to find them)

i know it sounds like a lofty idea
and no way it could work
but
i'm almost 41
no kids (two cats)
have a great job (thanks to my hardcore gop boss/owner/doctor)
could sell one of two copies "Amazing Spider-man #3"
have 8 "projects in various stages of development"
basically a semi-charmed life and
bored (just kidding, i'm not bored, there's not enough hours in the day)

i want to call on
THE CSPAN SUCKS FAITHFUL
to critique
re-write
add to
tear apart
etc
this silly little thing

it's just something i feel compelled to do

futile as it seems

i barrowed (sampled in today's vernacular) some of the feel for this from a petition to RECLAIM THE PUBLIC DOMAIN
http:/www.petitiononline.com/eldred/

this sample petition is in "modules"

We, the undersigned, while believing in the importance of a Free Market and Freedom of Speech, also believe in the importance of The Public Airwaves to be used as mandated by the FCC "...In the spirit of Public Interest, Necessity, and Convenience". We believe the use of The Public Airwaves is cruical to spread Knowledge, Cultures, and Civics. We therefore write to Petition you to consider major changes in the allocation of the Broadcast Spectrum.

****************
The public Airwaves are a Vast Toxic Wasteland.
Congress needs to hold Hearings on THE STATE OF THE AIRWAVES.
They would find:

1) That the Broadcast and Cable companies haved not lived up to using the Public Airwaves, as the FCC mandated "...in the spirit of Public Interest, Necessity, and Convemience".

2) That the Broadcast and Cable companies have " ...made so much money doing IT'S worst, IT can't afford to do better".

3) That the FCC and Congress have " given away, rent free" the Public Airwaves.

In the 1990's the FCC auctioned off portions of the Broadcast Spectrum.
One portion that was being auctioned would reach 16 million customers (CITIZENS).
Almost the size of the entire state of Texas.

That particular portion went for $3.00. Three Dollars! When asked to comment, FCC Chairman Reed Hundt said "... I wish I had three dollars".

This cavalier Policy and Stewardship of the Public Airwaves has been good for the Broadcast and Cable companies. And their Boards and Stock holders. And absolutely hideous for Civics, Public Affairs and Democracy.

i have about three other small paragraphs but am forced to leave for the evening

Thanks CSF

Too bad Bee just went on vacation, she'd love that petition. Hates the new GOP FCC.

What does the Public receive from the License holders for their use of the Broadcast Spectrum? Inexpensive Cable or Satellite packages? Choices and Diversity? Events and Programming with redeemable qualities? "500 channels, and nothing worth watching" .

**************************
Around 2008 the FCC and Congress will give away more of the Public Airwaves. Worth over 80 billion dollars. Once again the Public will be outside looking in, as the Broadcast Spectrum goes to the highest campaign contributors.

**********************
There are many Inependent, Grassroots and Localized ways to use the Broadcast Spectrum. But on a National level the Country needs more Public Affairs, more Civics. The unedited, undefiled paradigm C-SPAN has perfected, is the only thing We can all agree on. It promotes Democracy and Participation. Not even the Corporate Media Conglomerates can be against Democracy.
********************
We therefore call on Congress and the FCC to hold Hearings on the benefits of more C-SPAN. And to take steps to move forward with the endeavor of creating more C-SPAN Companion Networks. When there is more than enough Broadcast Spectrum to dedicate to Civics, Cultures, History and Democracy, We should not allow Greed to get in the way of-The Public Interest, Necessity and Convenience. Put the Public back in the Public Airwaves.
