Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg sat out several elections

NEW YORK – Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, who is seeking to fill Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's Senate seat, has not voted in a number of elections, including at least one race for the very job she's seeking.

The Democrat registered at her current address on Manhattan's Upper East Side in 1988. According to city Board of Elections records, she missed several Democratic mayoral primaries — typically important contests in left-leaning New York City — in 1989, 1993, 1997 and 2005. Republicans went on to win three out of four of those races in the general election.

She also missed the 2002 gubernatorial primary and general election, when Democrat H. Carl McCall faced Republican incumbent George Pataki and lost.

And she skipped the 1994 general election, when Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan was running for re-election for the same seat she hopes to take over if Clinton is confirmed as secretary of state in President-elect Barack Obama's administration.

Kennedy, who belongs to one of America's most illustrious political families, has been working to shore up support to convince Gov. David Paterson she's best qualified for appointment to the Senate.

Her spokesman, Stefan Friedman, said Friday that Kennedy "recognizes just how important it is to vote and has a very strong record of going to the polls." He added, "She has not voted on a handful of occasions over the last two decades."

Kennedy, the daughter of President John F. Kennedy, did vote in this year's primary and general elections. She voted in the presidential elections of 2000 and 2004. (What about 2008?)

Voting is for the little people. They do as they're told. Especially in New York. It amazes me so few people complain that such an important position might go to somebody who hasn't done anything at all in politics.

Voting is for the ACORN registrants... but not for the Military. They've got it down to a science.

Which DEMOCRAT should be appointed to fill Sen. Clinton's vacated seat, assuming she's confirmed as the next Secretary of State? Tell us who would meet YOUR standards.

What are your standards and which Democrat would meet them?

A U.S. Senate seat from NY is going to be vacated. A Democrat is the governor of NY. So, a Democrat will, in all likelihood will be appointed to fill the vacancy left by the departure of Sen. Clinton (D-NY), assuming she's confirmed as the next U.S. Secretary of State.

Many of you seem to disapprove of some of the names that have made the news, offering a variety of critiques.

So, why don't you tell us (you can start) WHICH Democrat would satisfy your criteria, WHICH Democrat would not be subject to your critiques, were he/she to be appointed to the soon-to-be-vacant U.S. Senate seat.

Lemme see...we got a seat being vacated by someone that was elected to the position without really residing in the state; a comedian actually launching a recount; a serious consideration for the office via nepotism; and you thinking you pose a serious question....

That's crap worthy of the celt...

Are there "official carpetbaggers?"

What was Alan Keyes official position when he ran against Obama for Illinois Senator?

Meaning, that one may actually be, de facto, a carpet-bagger while not being DE JURE ineligible to run for or be appointed to a particular political office.

It's not rocket-science, you know.

Alan Keyes was ELIGIBLE to run against Obama for the U.S. Senate in IL.

Zell Miller is not eligible to be appointed to the soon-to-be-vacant U.S. Senate seat from NY.

It's not rocket-science... it's the POLITICS of the left. When did they vet Barack Obama? Why would they start worring about a Senator's eligibility now?

How about someone who has at least run for a lower office, votes regularly, works in their party, and wants to work for their state, not just get inserted anywhere there's a free slot? There must be hundreds like that.
