So, do you fancy/prefer Scotch or Bourbon?

I guess there's Canadian, too, as well.

Any faves?

Back in the old country, Scotch Whiskey is remarkably popular. Chivas Regal and Cutty Sark (spelling?).

Jack Daniels is making a good run.

Growing up, I tried Scotch (mixed with water, or soda water) and I thought it was AWFUL.

It's amazing how much better spirits taste to adults.

I haven't had either in years, but bourbon mixes a lot better. Scotch is supposed to be for real drinkers. I prefer something sweeter. Now the most I ever drink is beer on ice, so it's watery.

I recall Robin Williams comment on JD. If alcohol is a crutch, Jack Daniels is a wheelchair.

I think R.W. was combining JD with some fine Columbian product.

I could be wrong.

P.S. I actually had a guy over Xmas giving me the "I call him John Daniels".

I used to like vodka collins. Or Tom Collins. Covers the gin.

My Grandfather caught my dad with a bottle of gin behind the barn once. Broke it over a big rock, and gave him $5 to go get some proper drinkin' whiskey.

In the south some things just aren't done. Speaking of the south, Southern Comfort wasn't too bad. Low Budget Gran Marnier.

Right. We are. Now, what's your pleasure? Scotch, Bourbon, or Canadian?

Chivas and Cutty?!!? Blended bilgewater.

You want real Scotch Whiskey, you gotta go to the single-malts.

No ice. Neat. In either a snifter or a glass specifically for drinking Scotch such as those made by Riedel.

This way you get to savor the unique differences of the distillers and the regions - huge differences between a highlands malt and an Islay, for instance.

With a blend all you get is the same semi-smoky taste and the only reason some of those don't kill you outright is they use some of the finer singles to blend with the peat moss strainings that comprise the majority of their offerings.

Used to be I drank the Chivas, Johnny Walkers, etc. Then one day got introduced to The Glenlivet - Never returned and started to explore the other singles - still mapping that region after many years.

Bourbon's okay, but I prefer straight whiskey as opposed to bourbon (which I find too sweet), and even then I find myself gravitating towards such things as "single cask" bottlings.

Somebody gave us one of these. We thought it was pretty good.

Definately Jack Daniels. I live just across the River in Cincinnati, Ohio.
