Do you own any firearms? If so, what kind do you own? I'll start off the thread with my collection.

Finnish M-91/30
Czech Mauser 8mm
SVD
SKS
M1 Garand
Steyr GB-80
Lorcin .380
Arturo_Vandelay
Mizilus will like this. Bart Katz has quite a few. Grigorri hasn't been around in a while, but he's actually done some exhibition pistol shooting.

My Dad has collected firearms for decades. Mausers, Lugers, a Nambu, Colt 45s, PPKs, Paratrooper model Carbine, and some more pedestrian stuff as well.

I go riding with my ppk on my fanny pack sometimes, especially when there were some rabies scares.
Bart Katz
I have a small collection that varies from time to time, especially when values on certain items increase a lot and I can do some profiteering.

My favorites are.

Remington PSS police sniper system in .308.

Springfield M1A semi auto rifle in .308

Bushmaster V Match in .223

Several AK-47's that I converted to American parts and put in pre-ban configuration.

UZI dealer sample sub machine gun (original Israeli, registerd receiver gun) in 9mm with a .45 cal conversion kit.

Recently acquired a nickel plated S&W model 36 first generation with pearl handles, like new.

Got a bunch of stuff in the safes. Some are for keeping and some are for trading.

I have a snubnose 38 grandad gave me years ago, loaded with hollow points.

A girl cant be too careful.

I don't know much about guns, but I've practiced enough to know which way to point and what to pull to make it go bang.

I'm partial to those as well. They are reliable and powerful enough given the range at which one would be likely to need one.

Here's my WWII vintage Thompson .45

The Thompson looks like fun. My Dad needs a Schmeiser to complete his German collection.

I think it's something like:

Though I'm no expert. I love to shoot, but have never been good at collecting anything since I want to use things rather than protect and care for them.

That's the nice thing about guns. So long as you continue to keep care of them, you can use them. smile.gif

Oh, and I completely forgot. I also have this freaky piece of hardware. Bushmaster Armspistol
Arturo_Vandelay
The Bushmaster looks a little funky, but if it works, what the heck. Reminds me a bit of my Dad's Mauser with the wooden holster, put them together and the holster becomes a stock, making it into sort of a rifle. It was featured in Joe Kidd with Clint Eastwood. (filmed at old Tucson)

Problem is they tested the idea and it was no more accurate as a mini-rifle than pistol. Still, it was an interesting idea.
beasty
I have an old Winchester 30-30, but it hasn't been fired in years. I took the boys out a few times when they were young figuring they ought to know basic gun safety and be aware of which end of the barrel NOT too look down. (a la Al Gore)

NICE M1A!

I've got an M1 Garand, a Ruger (180) Mini-14, Russian SKS, a sporterized Argetinian 1904 Mauser rechambered for 30.06, my first Marlin .22 rifle, an AMT .380, a GLOCK 26 and a S&W 647 .38. Well....actually, the .38 belongs to my wife....but she lets me shoot it at the range once in a while. I've aslo got about twenty rod and reel combos. DO I WIN? DO I WIN?
Arturo_Vandelay
You've got the fishing equipment down, the check's in the mail. I don't have a lot of guns, but I do have plenty of ammunition.

It used to be there were so many places to go out shooting. Just drive in any direction and pull off the road a ways. Now there's development everywhere. sad.gif

I just can't see paying to shoot indoors.

You've got me there. It was alot easier to find the natural range miles away from endangering folks about two decades ago. Now, I mostly clean them and admire them, except for the handguns which I will take to one of the local indoor ranges, at least twice a year, to fire a few hundred rounds and maintain proficiency.

Haven't had much time lately for fishing either with my projects and honey-dos although I do have a week on a Lake Powell houseboat reserved for later this year. It's between now and then that I'd love to schedule a few casts and I do need alot more practice working a fly rod and not looking totally spastic doing it.

Does anyone know if the state fishing license will cover fishing on the little lake on Silver Bell or is that a city park with a different licensing requirement?
Arturo_Vandelay
I think Bart goes out and shoots automatics once in a while. THAT would be fun.

I've never been real good with any pistol except grandad's .45 revolver. Somehow that gun and I work as one. But I did spend a LOT of time practicing a fast draw with it. Semi-auto's I can't barely hit the broad side of a barn with. If my life were at risk and I could choose anything to defend myself with I'll go with the carbine. Almost as light as a pistol and I used to hit .22 boxes at 30-40 yards. I figure that's a kill shot anywhere I might be asked to use it.

We used to have a sailboat, but I haven't been on a lake for years. I used to love skiing on Roosevelt when my parents had friends there. I was the only one who could get the hang of water skis so I could never talk them into looking into power instead of sail boats. sad.gif

Still, sailing was fun too.
Rene
Yeah, the autos can be finicky if not well maintained and one is not comfortable with the various unjaming or clearing of mis-feed techniques in an emergency, Twist, tap and rack. I do like the quicker reload and higher munitions capacity they offer, but when it was time to get my wife one, I went with the revolver for ease and reliability of operation. The S&W .38 I got her is an alloy beauty with internal hammer along the lines of a Lady Smith without the etching and additional $100.00+ added to the price tag. It can handle five +P shots and she's now very comfortable with it and easily passed the CCW course.

I never tried water skiing. Had this thing about water hurting really bad at speed. I did, as a very young person, tried my hand at snow skiing and managed to get down a very large hill without breaking a bone but damaging my pride a little with a wipe out at the bottom in a filled in ditch ending up in an ackward position that required help from others to untangle my body parts. unsure.gif

Anyway, need to get a whole lot more fun in before my bod breaks down.
Arturo_Vandelay
All the people I know have to make snow skiing a big event. Several days to Sunrise or something comparable. I prefer a one day trip so I can come home and suffer in my own bed.

I didn't snow ski until later in life and felt a tad embarrased when I could barely turn with poles and little kids were skiing by me with their hands behind their backs. I guess I'm just a desert guy. In the 70s a guy from Rincon won the world freestyle championship. (that's all those fancy tricks in the air)

How do you learn to do that in Tucson?
Rene

My daugthers hooked up with some kids from church and their H.S., CDO, in there teen years and at least once during the winter season would go up Mt. Lemon with them as a group and learn from their friends. My eldest can do the snow boarding thing and I'd just as soon stay on a snowmobile if I had one.

Snowmobiles sound like fun. Sort of like waverunners on snow. Waverunners are a blast, and no trees to run into. Just other waverunners and boats.

I saw a spot on TV about drunks on those things. One cut right in front of a speedboat, and BOOM. DOA.

Fun sober, but you have to be careful.
Rene
I got this this past week from TOPGLOCK, an outfit in Phoenix, AZ, where I purchased some tritium sights for my Glock. Doing a careful read of what these folks highlighted and it IS troublesome.

I'm off to writing some more letters.

Yet Another "Assault" On Your 2nd Amendment Rights...

In 2004 the United States Congress rightly allowed the so-called "Assault Weapons Ban" to sunset after 10 years in law. It seems that the wisdom of the 2004 congress has been forgotten. On February 13, 2007, HR 1022 or the Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2007 was introduced by Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY). This bill (now in committee) proposes to permanently reinstate the 1994 ban and add even more draconian provisions; essentially banning all rifles not traditionally used for hunting or sport and high-capacity (or FULL capacity) magazines. Even more disturbing is the fact that, at his/her sole discretion, the United States Attorney General can determine the classification (therefore legality) of any firearm.

We at TGSCOM are obviously appalled at the lengths that some of our elected officials will go to erode, or in some cases destroy, our rights afforded to us by the 2nd Amendment. It's time that we are heard. We urge you to contact your elected representatives and let them know that this proposed ban is an affront to the law abiding citizens that choose to safely and legally own firearms.

Following are some excerpts from HR1022 that we find particularly troubling:

SEC. 7. STRENGTHENING THE BAN ON THE POSSESSION OR TRANSFER OF A LARGE CAPACITY AMMUNITION FEEDING DEVICE.
(a) Ban on Transfer of Semiautomatic Assault Weapon With Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device-
(1) IN GENERAL- Section 922 of title 18, United States Code, is amended by inserting after subsection (y) the following:
(z) It shall be unlawful for any person to transfer any assault weapon with a large capacity ammunition feeding device.'.
...
SEC. 3. DEFINITIONS.
(a) In General- Section 921(a)(30) of title 18, United States Code, as added by section 2(a) of this Act, is amended to read as follows:
(30) The term `semiautomatic assault weapon' means any of the following
(A) The following rifles or copies or duplicates thereof:
...
`(ii) AR-10;
`(iii) AR-15, Bushmaster XM15, Armalite M15, or Olympic Arms PCR;
...
`(v) Calico Liberty;
...
`(viii) Hi-Point Carbine;
...
`(x) Kel-Tec Sub Rifle;
`(xi) M1 Carbine;
`(xii) Saiga;
...
`(xviii) Sturm, Ruger Mini-14;
...
`(D) A semiautomatic rifle that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine, and that has--
`(i) a folding or telescoping stock;
`(ii) a threaded barrel;
`(iii) a pistol grip;
`(iv) a forward grip; or
`(v) a barrel shroud.
...
`(L) A semiautomatic rifle or shotgun originally designed for military or law enforcement use, or a firearm based on the design of such a firearm, that is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, as determined by the Attorney General. In making the determination, there shall be a rebuttable presumption that a firearm procured for use by the United States military or any Federal law enforcement agency is not particularly suitable for sporting purposes, and a firearm shall not be determined to be particularly suitable for sporting purposes solely because the firearm is suitable for use in a sporting event.'....

SEC. 5. REPEAL OF CERTAIN EXEMPTIONS.
Section 922(v)(3) of title 18, United States Code, as added by section 2(a) of this Act, is amended by striking `(3)' and all that follows through the 1st sentence and inserting the following:
`( 3 ) Paragraph (1) shall not apply to any firearm that--
`( A ) is manually operated by bolt, pump, level, or slide action;
`( B ) has been rendered permanently inoperable; or
`( C ) is an antique firearm.'.

Hey Arturo!

Stopping by to say hi from the Dennis Miller board, and this looks like a nice thread.

My favorite toys are a SW1911 and a CMP service grade M1 Garand.

Wishing I could order the CMP M1 Carbines that just became available, but my discretionary funds just won't support it.

Arturo_Vandelay
I have an old M-1, and Dad has one with the folding stock that went to war on D-Day. i love the feel of them. I can shoot mine one handed and be very accurate. With two hands it's even better.

I have a Walther PPK I carry sometimes. Also own an old .45 colt revolver that Grandad used as a deputy sheriff in Orange county CA years ago. A well balanced gun I used to practice quick draws with.
Tommy Torquemada
Wow, friendly place. Thanks for the PMs from Bee, Nomarchy, and Beasty. I haven't had much time other than to register and make one posting.

As mentioned, I came here following an invite from Arturo on the Dennis Miller board (www.dennismillerradio.com). One of the the things that I've been enjoying is watching DM's transition from a knee-jerk anti-gun position to one much more understanding of the Second Amendment. He's been doing his research and sharing what he find with his listeners, and it has been fascinating to watch.
Arturo_Vandelay
Good show today. Here they play the last hour of yesterday, then the first two hours of today. Miller picked the Golden State game dead on.

I think he's generally a product of Broadway and Hollywood and just didn't consider gun ownership normal for anything but "gun nuts". I like Miller because he seems like a reasonable fellow who has been around. Maybe gone from a little left to a little right, but has stayed open to other ideas all the while.

Welcome aboard. smile.gif

We have a 'wide-range' of 'critters' who post here. Once in awhile we get into it. but most of time we
try to be civil to each other.

I'll have to check out the Dennis Miller site.

Alice Cooper is on right now. My favorite from the younger days.

Get in on Miller before they start charging so you can check it out without buyer's remorse. I have most of the shows downloaded, for free.

I really wish there were a way to affiliate with them without stepping on toes. Their bulletin board system just isn't very good. Can't reply, can't post pics, email, PM, edit posts, but the show is great and I'm more than happy to try and turn on our members and lurkers to their show and site.

I'm more than willing to pay for some of Miller's stuff, but the forum isn't worth $5.95 a month alone. The show downloads are though.

Ill check out his site, look around the dial for the show. With kids I've been reticent to have too many guns around, but I did teach them how to use my old .22 rifle and gave them basic gun safety lessons. I think it's a shame more kids don't grow up learning how to shoot safely from parents rather than how to show off from little hoodlums on the street.
