The "300" is due out in theaters on March 9, 2007. It's another remake of the Battle of Themopolies by the 300 Spartans. This version borrows heavily on computer animation, much like in "Sin City". I've seen the trailer and it appeals to my inner beast. laugh.gif

You can see it via the official site at : 300, Warner Bros where you enter, click on the Media tab and then the Trailer tab or you can go directly to YouTube

Looks good.

It appears that "Hannibal the Conqueror" with Vin Diesel playing the role of the general, and now directing, is still a viable project and now is allegedly scheduled for 2008. smile.gif

For a boring Weekend I got the last American Pie movie. The Naked Mile. Kind of raunchy, but pretty funny. The added features are especially good. They have Little People in it that have great parts. Good stunt work by the LPs too.

Went back to watch it again with the commentary. Even better the second time around. DVD is SO much better than VHS. Especially the added feature on this one.

With the holidays have come the kids and all the latest entertainment features. Last go 'round it was "Lost" but now I'm getting the full treatment of "Arrested Development", "The Office" and "24". All good. smile.gif

As for film, I am half way through my choice pick, "DaVinci Code". It's the DVD version of the movie version of the book, but it's all good. I'll let you know how it ends, if I ever get there. tongue.gif
Arturo_Vandelay
I have The DaVinci code coming by Netflix after Harvey Birdman, set two comes tomorrow. (I hope)

Four hours of 24 in a couple weeks. Man, I'm getting goosebumps already.

Elisha Cuthbert, AKA Kim Bauer as The Girl Next Door on FX.

Hot, and not as gloomy as on 24.

If it's not in a 'gated' community I sure would consider moving to her cul-de-sac. Know the zip? tongue.gif
SRX
I prefer the unzip.
Arturo_Vandelay
I her case I'd agree. I'd seen her in The Girl Next Door before, but didn't make the connection. She's alway so dark on 24, and playing a sexy ex-porn star didn't quite fit somehow.
Arturo_Vandelay
Got both second season Harvey Birdman discs from NetFLix. Best thing I've gotten so far. Augie Doggie has to go for obedience training, McGilla Gorrilla is proof of evolution, Birdman is victim of a class-action suit by all the villains he's hurt. Richochet Rabbit gets sued for busting up the town with his richocheting everywhere, Quick Draw McGraw tests gun rights. The Jetsons go into the past to try and stop global warming. Secret Squirrel gets caught flashing.

It's amazing how many characters Hanna-Barbera have.
Silver Arrow
I likes Deadwood, mightily, especially the early stuff, focussing on the Gem Saloon. Can you rent that?
Arturo_Vandelay
Check Netflix, they have a LOT of movies. Blockbuster online too. They also have free trials.
Silver Arrow
Yeah, that might let me drop HBO: the movies seem a less interesting lot. Say, either Hanna or Barbera, the latter surviving partner, just died. They had a lot of characters: who's Birdman or Richochet Rabbit, and who's their lawyer?
Rene
Just saw Mel Gibsons' Apocalypto the other night
and find it hard to believe that the people used in
the film were not professional actors. They did a great
job.

Must've been a new experience hiring and directing all those
folks without the Hollywood salary mark-ups or without
having to deal with the Hollywood egos.

A good movie although I'd advise skipping the pop corn with
all the body english and squirming you might be doing with
some of the action and gore scenes. cool.gif
Arturo_Vandelay
I'll have to wait for Netflix.

Saw the DaVinci code last night. It was sort of interesting and had some excitement to it as well. It was a little bit predeictable, but I had heard some about it.

The Naked Mile was better. smile.gif

The DaVinci Code wasn't bad and stayed pretty true to the book. Hmmm...Haven't seen the Naked Mile yet. wink.gif

Tough call. Tom Hanks, or Naked women.....

To be honest, I've kind of gotten bored with what Hollywood is churning out these days and have gone old school with the dvd's I've bought. There are actually a lot of gems out there, particularly 70's crime flicks (if you like that sort of thing) like Prime Cut, Charley Varrick, The Don is Dead, Magnum Force. Also, some of the mystery/suspense stuff from the 70's is far superior to today's "intelligent" movies. I'll take flicks like Marathon Man, The Boys From Brazil, The Paralax View, Black Sunday anyday over the current crop of movies. Of course, as always, it's just my opinion. biggrin.gif

At least they're free on AMC or network TV. I saw Charley Varrick not too long ago, and Eastwood is always on. I think some of the current stuff isnt' too bad, but cheap DVDs sure are a good lure. I've been buying old VHS tapes for almost nothing too.

I've finally seen all of the Eastwood movies now thanks to that. Back then I didn't feel like paying movie prices for the same themes over and over.

I got the Elvira movie for a buck, and What Planet Are You From? as well. The local swap meets been pretty good to me. Pretty soon they'll be going the way of vinyl though. sad.gif

Since I got Neflix I've found quite a few movies I wouldn't buy, but are good for a buck or so apiece to rent. Tonight it's Unrated Band Camp, and The Devil Wears Prada.

Beats bad news. I heard that all day.
Rene
Saw "300" and enjoyed it although Hollywood took more than some liberty in rewriting history a bit. In their version, the 300 Spartans do most of the fighting alone, didn't wear breat plates or carry much armor other than their shields and helmet while the Persian came with all sorts of mutant animals and warriors along with metal masked immortals and a giant Persian king. No mention was given of an outnumbered Athenian fleet fighting it out with the Persian fleet covering the Spartans' six o'clock.

None the less a non-stop action packed movie with lots of testosterone and blood and guts action. cool.gif
beasty
A couple people here have seen it and lent their views. With a youngster at home I'm a bit limited as to what I can see in a theater, but it looked entertaining, but TOTALLY devoid of historical value.
Arturo_Vandelay
I got The Guardian on Netflix. Good flick. Ashton Kutcher gets a bit of a bad rap for his acting, but I think he did a pretty good job. Kevin Costner is always the same.

Just a good story about the Coast Guard, which I can't recall seeing getting much play, considering they're pretty much always on duty.
Bee
The Movie of te Year is Pans Labyrnith, hands down. If you like original stories, and something that keeps you in suspense, this is a film for you. Don'tlet it's spanish language status put you off. Even if you are incapable of reading the few subtitles, you'll get what's going on. Set in Franco's Spain in the 1940s.

Good lessons about Good, Evil, Reality, and Belief.

I can't really comment on 300, as I slept though most of it, but the kids liked it. (I had been up all night making a killer cheesecake and putting out flowers EVERYWHERE and cleaning for my daughters B-day. biggrin.gif )

The "kids" were 14-15, BTW beasty. I did like the beautiful bodies I saw between naps. Always nice to see beautiful bodies.

The bit of sex I saw was gratuitous and somewhat screened,. If you let your kids play "warcraft" the violence is nothing new. smile.gif

Two weeks ago NPR weekend edition did a piece on the music from Pan's Labyrinth. Pretty good, and it SURE beat all the jazz stuff they usually do.

I'm listening to the soundtrack right now. smile.gif

You can get it on Limewire, but I did buy it for the Monkey.

Incredible. The music alone is probably enough reason to see it.
Arturo_Vandelay
I feel bad that I haven't bought any music for a while, but the truth is I haven't downloaded much, and what little I have is stuff I already own on records. I paid for some Karaoke CDs, but otherwise there isn't that much new out I really have to have.

Youtube has TONS of live versions and videos of songs. It would be great if Viacom etc could work a deal so everyone made money on the deal and we could all share at least the old stuff nobody is going to buy on CD. (or isn't even available)

Well, I try to buy things I find outstanding. This, the latest Chili Peppers, and The Decembrists are what I invested in. smile.gif

Somebody has to keep the music companies in business. I remember as a kid you had to save a weeks allowance to buy one record with MAYBE two good songs on it. Some groups only put 5 -6 songs on an album, with at least a couple fillers you just KNEW weren't worthy of paying for.

I love buying songs per song. One of the best things about the web.

Yeah
my daughter has about $100 worth of itunes gift certificates to spend
I'm surprised she hasn't got to it yet
Arturo_Vandelay
I've still got my realplayer store, but haven't bought anything is quite a while. Really, it's more fun to see the videos too, and I use my comp and home theater as my stereo anyway.

Saw Bourne Ultimatum. Great action flick with a lot of high speed chases, hand to hand combat and suspense that got your body english twitching. Rented the first two for my wife so that she'd get up to speed and she lover all three. smile.gif
Arturo_Vandelay
I got the first one on Netflix. Good so I rented the second as well. Now I can't decide what to do about the last one. Hurry to a theater or wait for the DVD. The first two were pretty good, though up till then I really wasn't a Matt Damon fan. (or detractor either)

The kid works hard. Good action stuff.

This is one of those rare trilogies where each one is better than the last. Some of the hand to hand combat scenes are amazing. It must've been a bear to get all those moves down at such a fast speed. I would highly recommend seeing it on the big screen. At the showing I went to more than a few folks applauded at the end. Not me, I was still telling my wife; "WOW what a movie!" wink.gif

Maybe I'll check it out during the last few hot weeks of summer. A good time for action and adventure movies. While it's too hot to actually have and action or adventures.

It's been a long hot one this year in Tucson. What's worst is that we've actually had a long bout with humidity with various storm fronts spining off moisture our way. Nothing better than and air conditioned movie theater and a cold soda. smile.gif...well maybe a pool and a chilled Sangria or other beverage. smile.gif
Arturo_Vandelay
We used to spend a whole day when it was $2.25 at Cineworld on Speedway and Wilmot. Four theaters and you could go into any one at any time. A great way to spend a summer day. Now it's more for a single picture, but matinees aren't too bad. The food and drink is were they get ya.

Now that you mention it maybe I'll check it out. I wonder how poor Luke is doing?

http://www.cinemablend.com/reviews/Idiocracy-1775.html

QUOTE
Idiocracy's story begins with an average Joe from the beginning of the 21st century. Joe Bauers (Luke Wilson) to be exact. A low level military scrub, Joe tests out as the most average guy the American armed forces have to offer. When told to lead, follow, or get out of the way Joe happily steps aside to let other soldiers get through. In other words it's a perfect role for Luke Wilson. Luke's at his absolute best here, this is the role he was born to play. Joe on the other hand is perfect for the military's latest experiments in cryogenics. He and a hooker turned guinea pig named Rita get frozen, stay in too long, and wake up 500 years later where Joe Bauers is now the smartest man in the world.

The future is full of idiots who've thrown everything they have into buying Big-Gulps and watching porn.

Ok Ok. Don't let me disturb you. Enjoy.

Not disturbing. I have the RC. Got Transformers up next.
Arturo_Vandelay
Just finished watching Idiocracy. I kinda liked it. Lead, follow, or get out of the way. The average guy can lead if nobody else is willing to. I found some plot holes and some silliness in the story, but it was entertaining enough and wasn't too black for a "black comedy".
